Read reviews, consider synergy between pre/power as well as overall system synergy, and above all audition (at home, with everything together is best).

I think hear it before you buy it is really important to emphasize right now.

I would suggest this Vincent Hybrid Tube Integrated.  It has plenty of power, warmer more analog sound and preamp out.  You will need to buy a separate phono preamp though which would be the way to go any way. But I agree with the previous poster that speakers may be a great place to start.

PSB and Salk speakers have a nice slightly warmer sound.

After reading the responses here and on other upstart system builder threads, I think I'm going to start with a phono amp and then speakers.  I am going to start doing some homework in those two areas - reading reviews and auditioning.
