Hi James.. :D
If the volumes control on my Bryston BP-26 starts out at 7 o'clock (minimum), and tops out at 5 o'clock..(maximum)

At which approximate level (or o'clock as reference) does the BP-26 provide unity gain?

It's around 1:00, give or take half an hour or so...

ok ya got me what is unity gain? i don't think i would want to turn mine up to 1 o'clock as it would way too loud.

srb

Unity gain is a gain factor of 1, where the source input to the preamp appears at the outputs unchanged.  Anything below that and the signal has been attenuated; anything above that and the signal has been amplified.

Good explanation.  Another way of lloking at it, is that at unity gain, you could discoonect your source from the preamp and hook it up directly to your amp and you would be at the same level of output.
