Diamonds in the Rough . .

This has been playing cable of late so maybe you can catch it.  It might have even gone direct to disc.  If it played in theaters anywhere it would have been New York.  It was written and directed by someone named James DeMonico and features an ensemble cast.  It is three stories and bit hard to appreciate cause its one of those movies that goes back and forth in time, slightly, plus one character is deaf, but it all comes together in the end.  Clever.  On the surface it's an unfortunates and gangster flick but there is some serious heart in it.  Staten Island (2009) is the name of it.  Some of the character acting is exceptional.  A mob boss camps out in a tree after an attempt on his life presumably to hide in public and does some good, ironically.  The flick is grim on the surface but tender in the end.  Julianne Nicholson (TV's Law and Order) is one of the cast and I confess to being magnetized by that smile of hers.

Electra Glide In Blue is very good, I think.

Electra Glide in Blue was a very good movie. Your post brought back memories of my dad taking me to see it at a studio screening back when they had a bartender down in front, right in front of the screen. It was a final cut room for an audience of about 300.

Edge of Darkness.  A recent release, there are a few glaring concessions to a less than 2 hour running time and to keep your emotional responses jumping like when a) Mel Gibson is handcuffed to a gurney and a bad guy comes in to wheel him off to a bad end and has the key to the cuffs conveniently on a string around his neck.  Or, b) when a potential witness is struck by a car which wouldn't happen when the conspiracy is supposed to be kept hidden and right in front of the guy you would least like to provide ammunition.  And, it IS more of the same old beef stew, good vs. evil, the lone wolf vs. the powerful, but the casting is good as is the dialog.  More than one viewing brought more appreciation from me.  Gibson and Ray Winstone are very good, as is Danny Huston as the bad guy.  Winstone's character HAS character in the end so we have a good, thorough ending.  Worked for me.  I enjoyed it.
