Value of Coupling Caps in RM10 mk1
« on: 18 Jan 2012, 12:42 am »
I was looking under the hood of my RM10 mk1 and noticed that the coupling caps are Nichicon 1000K 600V.

1000K means 1000 picofarads, right?  If so, wouldn't that would mean that these coupling caps are .001 uF, right?

Thinking of trying out some Sonicaps.  No idea if they are better than the Nichicons but I'm interested to see if they make any difference.  The Sonicaps are like $4 per capacitor so it's not a painful tweak.  Worthwhile?  We'll see.

One interesting thing I found: the Nichicon 1000K caps look very similar to the Sprague Orange Drops.  I wonder if Sprague was OEMing these for Nichicon?

The value is .1 mfd @ 600V; they are not made by Sprague.

Cool thanks.  I was thinking that the multiplier from pico to micro was 1*10^-6.

I also posted this question up on diyaudio.com and someone replied saying that the value is 1uF.  Now I'm really confused.  Roger, help!
