SP 1.7 DVD player Question
« on: 14 Jan 2012, 03:42 pm »
Hello all,

I am stumped

I am trying to hook up my DVD player to the sp1.7 and I am having some issues. I have a Bryston sp1.7, BCD1, Bryston video switcher and a Cambridge audio blue ray player.

I have the cd player hooked up with both RCA and digital cables into the 1st digital in on the sp1 and I get sound via both digital and analog.

I would like to to the same for the blue ray player as I have it connected to the sp1 via rca 5.1 and a digital cable. The analog RCA's go into the 5.1 analog inputs and the digital cable connects into the sp1 via the digital 2. I get sound out of the analog bypass but nothing on the digital connection. It states incompatible source when I try and use any of the surround modes or say 6 channel mix. I cannot find the menu item to assign digital selection to the devices, just optical. can this be done or do I have to choose one or the other.

Thanks in advance

Jeff

If I understand what you are saying you get no sound on the digital input from the Blu-Ray player?  The SP1.7 cannot decode DTS HD or Dolby True HD if that is what you are doing.

I have my Blu-Ray player hooked up the same way so I can use the analog input for Blu-Ray and digital for DVD.  Assign the optical input you have the player plugged into to DVD.  Then make sure the player can output both analog and digital at the same time, some do not.  Doing this I can switch between them by just hitting the bypass button.

I was trying to play a cd not dvd.

The Blue Ray player would decode these formats on a dvd would it not?

Check your bluray player setup menu. You may be able to change the digital stream output to PCM while playing CD's. The SP1.7 should be happy with that.

Good luck

hi, jklowan!

welcome to the forum :thumb:

yes, check your player setup. try the 'auto' function for the digital outputs (if doable). i have a SP2 and a Philips BDP 7500 blu ray player. the player is connected with digital coax and analog 5.1 into the processor. when playing a blu ray disc by choosing the digital input it shows either DTS or DolbyDigital...no issues so far :D and the analog connection works, too.

best,

al.

Thanks all,

I will try the set-up menu on the Blu ray player tonight and report back.
