I need help with my room

I just got my Odyssey Lorelei and overall everything sounds good. There's a couple things that bother me though. I have around a + 15db peak around 36-44 Hz range in the right speaker. Also the bass response is a lot lower in the left speaker, probably because I don't have a full wall there. Here's some crappy pictures for reference:

Pages 2 and 3 show how things are now. What can I do to balance things out a little without spending too much money or none at all? I know speaker positioning is important and I've experimented for a few hours but I just can't get rid of that 40 hz peak. Basically, I divded the depth of the room into odd divisions. The front of the tweeter is now 36.8" (a 5th of the total room debth) away from the wall behind the speaker. What affect does the couch have?
Thanks for your help

If you can't afford something like Ethan's Mini Traps, I would try building some of Jon Risch's homemade traps.
You are going to have to build or buy...

Will they take care of frequencies that low?

Ethan's products will go that low, but cost will add up in a hurry.
The Jon Risch traps will need to be very big in diameter to be effective in that range.
