Studio space Apple sound system: I had dinner with a friend who wants better sound--better than her inexpensive generic external computers speakers. Shes in a 20 x 25 ft. studio. She was streaming from Pandora when we had some nice tom yum soup. She uses iTunes from her MacBook Pro as well.  I asked her for a budget and it's $200US. So if the iPad/MBP is the source what would be the best path for more pleasant sound? And of course she wants minimal cables. i.e. Jawbox is on the top of her list (which I am trying to dissuade!)

I immediately thought of nice omni-directional speakers and a receiver, and an airport express but that is way over the budget. I am leaning towards the small AudioEngine's and a used airport express.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
ed

Hmmm... make sure whatever she gets, there's a sub involved. I find that the AudioEngine P4s that my girl has would be woefully inadequate without a sub.

She loves the cool Storm Trooper look of the white AudioEngines, btw.

I can help yoou with a slightly used Airport Express for $60 if that's the route you want to go.  I don't have the 35 mm to rca connection kit though, but any stereo mini to rca cable should work fine.

No pressure, just offering if it's the way you think she'll want to go.

Perhaps a pair of these or something similar and an airport express?
