You don't work in an office John.

Not to mention have little kids who look to see what is on daddy's laptop.

Fair warning to those interested in this system:
The RM/X (stock version) has a current retail price of $11,900pr plus shipping.
The retail price will increase in easy stages to $44,000pr by Dec 2005.

Methinks this is "ok, dealers, line up now, because you are going to be in mark-up heaven if you do." Admittedly, VMPS could use a few hundred new dealers, so maybe it's a really smart move. But good mercy, a 4x price increase... is that going to fly?  :o

I blame John C... He said they sounded as good as $50k speakers; apparently Brian heard him. Bad John! Bad! Naughty!

given what Brian has said about what it costs to make the RMX, his scheme sounds like it's designed to allow 'the faithful' who hang out on the boards and follow the company to get the RMX at a low price before he cranks it up to a point at which he is making a profit.

from what Brian has said the RMX costs over $10,000 in parts alone (most of that in the cabinets). If this is true then at current prices he is making a very painful cash loss on the speaker, as he is not even recouping his parts costs and is not getting anything for the design time, hassle, labor in putting them together, etc.

Presumably at a sticker of $44,000 the actual price would be a bit lower, and Brian himself would not realize a "big" profit unless he filled an order placed directly to the factory. He might sell the speaker to his dealers for $30k, thereby achieving say a 100% markup on his parts & labor costs, and they might resell for $40k. So $30k of profit sounds unlikely even if the manufacturer and dealer profits are combined. $15k to Brian and $10k or so to the dealer (depending on their willingness to bargain) sounds more plausible to me...the numbers could be even lower...

Glad I got mine when I did  :o

Other than the cabinets, part cost should be similar to the RM-30 or RM-40, except for the extra neo panels of course.

Dorne certainly does fine work, and quality cabinets don't come cheap.  Perhaps MLS will come to the rescue and produce an RM/X cabinet at lower cost ?  Or maybe Big B is working on a lower cost version of the RM/X with similar driver complement but simpler cabinet design (i.e. get rid of the curves and permanently mount the tweeter), offering most of the benefits of the future $44k flagship at an affordable price.   I believe that would be a definite "Best of Show" contender for CES 2005 !!!

Regardless, I do hope Big B will get RM/X cabinet costs under control, it would be unfortunate to see these wonderful speakers priced too far out of reach for most music lovers...

Obviously Mr. Joker is a gentleman concerned about "breast cancer" and is providing educational video on "self examination".
I find it a community service, and applaud his example 8)
Keep up the good work Mr. Joker

John,
Funny, that's exactly what I was going to put in my signature, but alas, management has gotten too many complaints so I have to take my "Breast Cancer Exam" down.  Really the avatar showed nothing more than a bikini would show.  I think if you would get in trouble for it at work then I'm sure they also wouldn't appreciate you hanging out on the internet all day at work either.  Some people just enjoy complaining, I work in an office too, as a matter of fact I work in a Government office and I doubt very seriously I would "get fired" for what some guy has as his avatar on an internet site. My work is a drug & alcohol free work place, I am offended by glasses with alcohol in them and could get fired for that!!  :nono: Just kidding, but get my point?  Well I have put up another one, hope this one doesn't offend anyone, must be "PC" now days.  Oh well, Thanks for the support gentlemen!!

Had to come back and edit this post about a thousand times.......don't want to offend.

All your avatar problems solved through the miracle of click and drag:

It's amazing what you can do with computers these days, isn't it? :P

I'm not talking about his current avatar but the one with a women juggling her big boobs. :). Personally, it doesn't matter to me but it's a different story if you have wife & kids looking over your shoulder.

I got a kick out of the old "G-Dub holding a bong" avatar.  Who had that one?  I don't remember anymore, but it was funny.

F100:
I did see it and I agree it was on the bubble.  Not enough to get fired over, maybe enough to get fired-up over.

I didn't think about children viewing this site and that would be unfortunate.  I'm not going to say anything about WAF and being p-whipped because throwing stones in glass houses. . . (you know the rest).

Now now F-100, that's not what you said about my avatar in another thread, and I quote:

Not trying to stir up a mess but just calling em like I see em.  I really don't think it was anywhere near pornographic. If the rules of the owners/management of said forum forbid it then I don't have a problem with it, but grown men complaining to management strikes me as kind of odd. Maybe it's just me but I just can't fathom how a grown man can be offended by such a menial avatar, on the other hand I do love and appreciate the art of a womans body and maybe they don't, hmmm...... :o

I do find it odd that these same people whom complain usually say "I'm at work and could get fired", kind of contradictory in a way, I mean shouldn't they be working instead of hanging out on an audio forum all day long?? I see other avatars with bikini's "slipping off" and showing pubic hair, cartoon character's giving the finger, etc and I don't find them in the least bit offensive.  As for Wives and Children(and yes I have both), well they can easily run across much more "colorful" pictures at any given second on the net.  If someone is truely offended then I apologize and offer Nathanm's advice from the previous page, click and drag.  Anyway, I don't want to ruffle any feathers or get anyones panties in a bundle, just offering my opinion.  Hope you all have a Great Weekend!!!!!!

DMV, lol. I don't think so.  That's local government, not federal.

We have an unwritten policy of tolerating most all "art" in the sports bar forum.

Since this is an audio board we want to keep the other areas family friendly.

Should anyone want to start a thread in the sports bar and post "outlawed" AVATARs, I'm sure it would get many views...I know I'd check it out
