I have put together a system for a buddy from my leftovers, and he'll take either my Hafler XL-280 or Parasound HCA 1000A.  Frankly I am not using either one right now, but both have done duty as a subwoofer amp for my Maggie 1.6 system.

Stupid question, but which one should I keep sitting on a shelf as a backup?  I have a much-loved Moscode 300 for the mains, and plan to buy 3.7s in about 18 months.

Hafler has a bit more power, but runs much warmer.

Thoughts?

Dump the Parasound. 
Hafler and Dynaco equipment always seems to hold some residual value even if it's not working. 
No comment on which is a better amp.

Although the Hafler has a bit more power at 8 ohms (145W) versus the Parasound's 125W, they both output 200W at 4 ohms.
 
As a backup amp for Maggies, I would keep the Parasound due to its higher peak current (45A vs 18A) and slightly higher power supply capacitance (40,000 uF vs 30,000 uF).

If you have used both of them and you know what they are capable of, why are you asking someone else what you should keep?  Am I missing something here?

If it's a toss up, I'd give the newbie the newer piece (it should last longer before age related issues kick in).
