The Coldplay X&Y CD has Copy Control Technology which prevents dbpoweramp from ripping to FLAC. Any idea how I can accomplish this to use on my BDP-1?

Try ripping using Linux or a Mac.     Probably not the answer you wanted to hear though.

Actually it's probably a helpful reply. Thanks. I do have a MacBook Pro but use dbpoweramp for the FLAC conversion as I thought it was as good as it gets for conversion including artwork and metadata.
Any suggestions for good FLAC conversion software for Mac?

I rip to FLAC with XLD, seems to do the job.
