Okay, so this has nothing to do with Tom Waits...BUT...if Tommy boy had a high girly voice, and was even more into theater and carnival music, then he'd be the TIGER LILLIES, who have the best CD of 2004 so far, Titled The Gorey End. Brilliant stuff, funny and slightly perverse, the lead singer/songwriter rewrites Edward Gorey poems about debauchery and death. All of this accompanied by The Kronos Quartet, and set to Tom Waits Frank Wild Years type music, a little more subtle, but just as carney-like. Thoroughly fun.
