Ministreamer USB available as external unit?
« on: 17 Dec 2011, 09:48 pm »
Is the Ministreamer USB option for the Fet Valve Hybrid DAC available as a standalone unit?

Also wondering - what are the bitstream capabilities of the USB 3.0 standard?

The Ministreamer is just available as an internal board. It is good up to 96/24 only.

For higher bit rate use I would recommend the Kingrex UC192 which works up to 192/24 and comes with software drivers for PC computers.  It does not need drivers for recent Mac computers.

It is in a small external chassis, complete with wall wart power supply, USB cable, driver disc, and instructions.  It has USB in and coax digital out, and more.  It works very well with any Vision or Fet Valve DACs.

USB 3?  Digital is moving nearly too fast for me to keep up with.

Thanks Frank!

And if I the UC192 does 192/24 with the USB 2.0 standard, I'm willing to bet that the 3.0 standard won't improve the sound enough that my ears would hear it.

I've been searching online for a place to get one of these puppies.  None of the links seem to work, and the few that do won't allow me to view price/availability, don't ship to the US, or won't allow me to even "add to cart" to check price, shipping, etc.

Can anyone point me to a place to find these, or a more appropriate forum to post in?  I'm looking in "HiRez", "Cheap and Cheerful" and "Discless", also.

Thanks!

Thanks for the link.  This was another one I tried and thought surely this one will work (we're both in the US), but I'm getting the same thing I got last time - "data transfer interruption" when I hit the "checkout" button.  I sent them an email through their online contact form.

Thanks for your help!

Yeah, sorry.  I thought it was good as it looked like it was in stock ("Usually Ships in 24 to 48 Hours"), I could add it to the Cart and I could calculate shipping.  But after you reported your error I tried going on further to Checkout and also received errors - "Cannot display the page" in Internet Explorer and "The connection was interrupted" in Firefox.

Looks like they are having problems with the store portion of their site.

Right.  I use several different browsers on linux, and I thought maybe it was a browser issue, but at some point I decided I should email 'em and see what's up.
