Hi All AC'ers,
I have a dedicated 2 channel setup with sub and purchased a 50" Panasonic plasma when we moved into a new home. I have a cheap Panasonic Blu Ray player HDMI into the Panny. My 2 channel is cd transport into my dac. What is the best way to hear movies on the two channel, keep Blu Ray and still have a transport and hdmi into the tv. I have a Conrad Johnson 17LS preamp, so different imputs are available. My dac has one digital imput, so I may have to change dacs for more imput options or can I use a hdmi decoder?

Sorry, this is making my brain go in circles and appreciate your expert advice. Can I use an Oppo as a transport and use digital output and hdmi at the same time?  :duh:

Thank you for the help!

just take digital out from blu ray source into your dac, just like your cd player.  hdmi will carry video to tv, mute tv sound if need be.  I have similar set up

Well, that was too simple.  :duh:

Which Oppo would be best? Or is there something better. Is the BDP-83 enough or should I go with the new models?

Thanks!

Sounds like you use your sub for your 2 channel already so it must be getting its signal from your preamp.  And if I read your post correctly, you only have one digital input to your DAC, right?

Use the digital input at the DAC for the CD player (assuming it is separate from the BlueRay) and take the analog from the DAC to the preamp for 2 channel music.

For movies, use the HDMI to the monitor (it will be for video only) and use analog audio outs from the BlueRay to your preamp on another input source.  I did this on my Oppo 83SE and configured the Oppo in set-up to only send video through the HDMI (in my case I sent the audio through a digital out to my 7.1 processor but it will also work to send to analog outs).  You will have to set-up the BlueRay for 2 channel out and it will funnel the main channels, surround channels, and LFE signal through your L and R output.

(self-serving message begins ...) Uh, you could also buy an oppo 83SE or 93, or 95 and just use that for everything.  I know someone who has a used Oppo 83SE they are selling. (self-serving message ended.)

Cheers,

David

I plan to sell my transport and use an Oppo or other, so one source feeding my dac. I understand using both, but I want the sound to go through the dac. I have been told the Oppo sounds good as a transport, but will have to find out by listening. I would think a BDP-93 would do all I need or 83?
