VMPS - Customer Service Second to None ...

...and here’s why

Point One:
In 2004 I bought a used pair of RM40s and, because I’d auditioned them in the loft of an A-frame cabin with horrid acoustics, it wasn’t until I got them home that I noticed that one channel had a serious mid-frequency deficit even though all of the drivers appeared to be working. I brought the mid-panels to Brian. After he took the time to go to the store to get a 9 volt battery, he discovered that one of them was magnetized backwards. All that was needed was to reverse the wires and the problem was solved -no charge.

Point Two:
In 2008 my son bought a used pair of 626Rs on the internet. When one of them arrived with a serious x-over issue, he called VMPS and Brian told him to bring it in and he’d take a look. After working on it for more than an hour, the problem was solved. As it turned out, they were originally sold as kits and weren’t assembled correctly. Brian sent him on his way -no charge.

Although it may be obvious, it should still be noted that these speakers were out of warranty and VMPS was under no obligation to provide any such services let alone for free. In both of these cases Brian dropped what he was doing and immediately attended to our problems.

Point Three:
Last Saturday an issue arose with my new RM30 SIIs. I called and Brian said he'd come out to my house and fix it Monday evening. After fighting the brutal commute traffic he and his assistant arrived on time, promptly fixed the problem and then proceeded to tune the 30s for my listening room.

I know living nearby has its advantages and that things must be handled differently over longer distances but, this has been my experience and I wanted to share it. It just amazes me how VMPS (Brian) stands behind their products.

Hi Doug,

You hear these stories all the time with Big B.

Generally a good LUNCH will keep him happy after a good tuning

Glad the speakers are finally "in system" and "Master Tuned".

VMPS looks like a great product from a long-standing company- I'll be looking them up.

Because I also live near Brian, I've also had a couple of experiences where he's provided just bend-over-backwards, extraordinary support for my RM-2's. Big B is just an all around great guy! (It also helps that we're eager to share extraordinary recordings with each other when we have time!) BTW, Brian - if you're reading this, best of luck in Las Vegas this year!

I... may or may not put my subwoofer project on hold (own two Adire Brahma mkII 15's, haven't decided OB or sealed yet) if I could get started with just one of these subs, and eventually add another. I haven't actually called to talk to anyone yet because this month is all about my speaker mod and it's taken up my whole budget, but I would possibly buy one of these new if the shipping was reasonable. Like I said, I have yet to call anyone.

I've been reading some great things about VMPS speakers and I'm not surprised to hear of their good customer service. I've spoken recently with John Casler too, who seems like a great guy. But I've never actually heard a VMPS speaker and have a request. If there is anyone out there who lives in Michigan (or even in northern Ohio, northern Indiana or the Chicago area) who would be willing to let me hear their VMPS (and/or has one for sale), please let me know. I'm considering moving up from my Maggie MG12s to the MG1.6 or 1.7, but wanted to also consider really good alternatives that would be under $5k, like the VMPS RM2 or RM30. Thanks for any help.

Check the Owners/Audition list at the top of the VMPS Forum.  I believe "Shear Bliss" is in Michigan!

I"m in the Metro Detroit, MI. area, have RM-1s and original 626 in light oak. Set in a 20ft x 13ft audio room. Any other VMPSers in the S.E. Michigan area are welcome to drop in. There once was a dealer up in Flint, and have bought VMPS in South Bend, IND. before.  Seems shipping costs have slayed the beast in the Great Lakes States ...

Sounddog:

Got your phone message, but I don't know the Michigan owners very well.  I'd follow up on the suggestion above.
