I just started playing with digital audio outside of cd's.  I bought a Touch and have ripped some music in Itunes as well as downloaded some 96/24 files.  I'm running the touch into an external dac and it doesn't sound too bad.  Here's my question:  If I eventually set up a separate computer as a music source...and continue to use the Touch, is there any value in add on software such as Amarra...etc...?  What little I understand is that the Logitech server software is what is streaming the audio.  Will extra overlay software impact sound quality?

Any input appreciated.

You are correct that the Logitech software is the audio engine that streams the data.  The iTunes integration merely allows Squeezebox Server to read the iTunes library and playlist files.  Music player software like Amarra or Pure Music will only have an effect on the sound quality playback directly from the computer.
