Cornet 2 question
« on: 1 May 2004, 03:02 pm »
Im getting my parts list together ready to get a cornet2 built.

I have a few questions.
I notice that there is an addition of 1uf caps alongside the 47uf on B+.
I will be using 4 x 50UF polyprop cans to replace the 47UF electrolytics, but i couldnt get a 5th one so i have a 38UF polyprop can, will this be OK?

The new cornet board looks like it will fit my build plans very well, much better laid out for me.
The heatsinks at the input/output end of the board, are these for shielding of analogue signals only? If so would making my own shield from copper be a worthwhile idea?
Is there and sonic difference between the original Cornet and the mark 2?
I ask as i notice a few changes in component values...

The large electrolytic caps have always been bypassed by films.  In the Cornet Classic, they are 0.47uF instead of 1uF.  The value of the caps is not that critical, 38uF is fine.

Yes, the heat sinks are used as electric field shields.  You can build a copper one by hand if you prefer.  The shield may not even be necessary, it just seemed like the right thing to do.

The sonics are probably very close to the original.  You get much more variation by tube rolling.

Do you mean C203?  If so, the answer is yes.
