Pre amps for sale
« on: 3 Dec 2011, 01:36 am »
Hello, I have a Audio Research SP-5 for sale, just had it checked out by St. Louis Computronics, have receipt. Some blemishes on top, no dents or dings, one rubber foot is worn. $400.  I also have a NAD C162, like new condition. $250. And if anyone is interested, a BGW 320 B power amp, with something blown in it. It was checked out and cleaned six months ago by Alpha Tech, and was working fine. Then made a pop sound and shut off and will not power back up. I'm just ready to move on and not fix it. $50. Call me if interested 314-917-8807. If no intrest by next week it all goes on greed-bay or audiocon. Thanks for looking.

Herb.

Hello everyone, I am curious. I have had over a hundred views, but no one is interested. I know things can take a while to sell, I'm not new. But I was wondering if I could get some honest feedback. Are these units just not that desirable, is my pricing off or is it just bad timing with the holidays? If you guys think they may be hard to move in St. Louis, I might just put them on ebay now to not waste time.Again no hard feelings, just wondering. Thanks in advance for any comments.

Herb.

Actual pictures of the units can only help the cause.
Once the asking price passes a couple 'bills' (ie $200.), people like to see the unit.
And you may want to have this posted in the Trading Post where the 'real' selling and buying business is conducted.

Hi Hugh,

Things in general tend to take a bit longer to sell on AC and other audio forums as compared to Audiogon. Also, since you have only 8 posts here, this may scare off potential buyers. Perhaps point us to a website like eBay or Audiogon where you have feedback? Lastly, judging by a quick Googling of the ARC SP-5, it seems you might be asking a bit much for it compared to other sellers.

Pics also help.

Thanks for the comments, I am in Chicago again for work. I can have my wife take pics. I was trying to keep it local so I dont have to deal with shipping. Shipping components scares me. The only comp I used was A SP-5 that sold on ebay on Nov 28th for $410.00. I will google for other prices, and everything is a negotiation. I am busy so I don't post much, I can't overcome that. I have 100% feedback on ebay, but thats mostly buying stuff. I got these units on a fluke, had them checked out by a reputable shop, and have to sell them because my amp took a s&!t. I'm not a dealer and don't usually have multiple components. Thanks for the advice.

Herb.

If you're reluctant to ship, it constrains your audience by quite a bit.  There are many more people in the United States (and the world!) than there are in your immediate area.

Also, I'll add that things tend to move much more quickly on Audiogon.  Some folks do visit EBay for their stereo equipment fix, but Audiogon is far more common for the audiophile community.

What you might also be finding is that most of the GAS guys have more equipment than they have rooms. There is no room left at the inn.

I'll chime in here.  I am in the market for a new preamp, specifically a better phono section, but since my current  pre-amp is an ARC SP-4.....
On shipping, how do you think the preamp gets from Mpls. to the dealers?  If you have the original packing, just ship via FedEx, which won't play piñata with it, unlike other carriers.  If you don't have the original packing, find a box, or cut one down, that fits the SP-5 fairly close, and use bubble wrap to make it snug.  Then find another box that is either 2 or 4 inches bigger in all dimensions than the first, which will give you 1 or two inches of clearance between the inner and outer box.  Fill this gap equally on all sides with styrofoam worms.   Shipping is billed by the weight , not the size (within reason) so this additional packing doesn't add much to the cost.
