Some A/V-2s for my parents
« on: 2 Dec 2011, 08:48 am »
I built some A/V-Os a while ago to go in the family room and my dad (who is hard on hearing) was always commenting on how much better he can hear everything through them. Since my parents watch TV in their bedroom most of the time, not in the family room, my brother and I decided to get them speaker for there too. My brother funded the kit, I built them and bought an amp.

It's only my second time ever veneering, and my first time trying to "pop" the grain. I'm still learning but I thought they came out satisfactory.  :D

The eagle eyed viewer will notice they are a bit too big. This is because I built the cabinets to N3S specs, but then we couldn't afford the N3S kit. Also the padauk wood front baffles are in addition to the MDF fronts, so they are deeper too.

Great job on the AV-2's!  :thumb: They look very nice. I have a pair AV-3 TL towers which use the same drivers as the AV-2's except the AV-3's uses 16 ohm woofers in parallel and the AV-2's uses 8 ohm woofers in parallel. Both speaker systems have excellent sound quality. Very nice of you and your brother to give such nice speakers to your parents. I am sure they will really enjoy them.

Wow, those look awesome. The driver spacing is a little wide, but it looks awesome.

Nice job, zero, and good on ya for thinking of your folks, it flows both ways. Veneering is pretty cool, opens lots of doors woodworking-wise.

My Dad was into stereo when I was a kid and, intended or not, got me hooked in early. I'll date myself and tell you that the the first home speakers I made were sourced from Radio Shack...they a were different store then...
