I just ran across this new product from Pioneer, the Elite EX500.  http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/product/detail/0,,2076_2047431_2046358,00.html  It is a combination (separate but packaged together) digital amp like the Panny and a Elite badged Pioneer 563 universal player.  The 563 seems to be the player of choice for mods.  Together this could represent a killer combination if the amp can be made to sound like Wayne's modded XR45.  The Elite amp even includes Pioneer's MCACC room correction.

Interesting, as especially as a newer product, the combo can be picked up for < $400.
