My late father got me started in this hobby, when he gave me his 1957 Garrard 88 turntable, University 6201 speaker, and Grommes int. amp.

I'd like to find a clean/decent one to set on a shelf to honor my dad.  Doesn't have to work, but I would need the wood base, and would prefer having a cartridge (mono OK) just for show.

I can arrange pick up in Missouri or the Baltimore area.  I have found one on CL in Balmer, but the guy is being a little stubborn.

Comments and ideas are welcome.

Guess you don't have the turntable anymore from your dad? I wish I had the Award Series Harman Kardon tuner of my dad. He had a crummy plastic arm turntable, the kind with the flip needle. None of that original stereo is with me today. But the memories remain!

No, he moved through a variety of classic tables.  A huge Thorens (TD-124?) with a SIXTEEN INCH Ortofon arm, an Empire, Harmon-Kardan, B&O, etc.

He never really seemed to care about sonics, just loved the toys.  Sound like anyone we know?

Anyway, I had to handle the audio estate for my mom when he passed.  I don't have any of his old gear, but years later I did buy some nice stuff from a former student of his several states away, via the old Audiomart rag.

But the old Garrard 88 sure tugs at the memories.
