FS: TBI Magellan VIIIsu passive subwoofer $550
« on: 27 Nov 2011, 09:45 pm »
The TBI Magellan VIIIsu, a passive subwoofer, is very musical and fast, fast, fast.
It can serve well as a home theater sub as it does go deep and play loud.
However, no sub at anywhere near this price range can blend so seamlessly with Quads, Maggies, ribbons, and other very fast speakers. Just type "TBI" in Audiogon's Forum section and you will find many references to rave reviews of several TBI models by many review sites like, 6moons, Stereo Times, and Dagogo.
People uniformly praise TBI subs for their speed and musicality. And TBI subwoofers have garnered several awards, as well as found their way into many reviewers' systems.

I will, also, soon, be listing for sale the excellent stereo, or mono, NHT X2 active crossover, which is currently available, now, with the VIII for an additional $250, if you wish.

Just add a bridged (or mono) amp and you have a true audiophile-quality system. The X2 has balanced as well single-ended inputs and outputs. So, you have great flexibility in what you choose to use with it.
Alternatively, one could use this sub with another VIIIsu for true stereo bass.

I'll even throw in a one meter Acrotec (now Acrolink) cable to run from the crossover to your amp, if you buy both the crossover and subwoofer, together.

I need to raise money to replace my turntable, and, so, am paring down my system to raise cash.

Price for the VIII with the X2 and cable is $725.00

I accept PayPal only. No additional fee.
No international sales.
Check my feedback at Audiogon (also as Nietzschelover) and buy with confidence.

What size/type amplifier did you use?  Also, how well do you think it would sound crossed at 40Hz with a 24dB slope?

I used a Golden Tube Audio SE-40SE set to high gain and "use negative feedback".
I used 45Hz as a crossover point on the X2.
Since most people who use it have expensive speakers that, already, get down to 40-50Hz with no problem, 40Hz is a typical setting to use with it. The sub should "disappear" and blend seamlessly with the main speakers if it is about zero to one foot farther back than the main speakers to adjust for phasing.

Sorry...is this the su model with 8 ohms nominal impedance?  I have a ClassDAudio amp rated 240w into 8 ohm in Bridged mode.

Yes. It is the su model. I just checked the owner's manual.
