Can someone tell me why faad.exe keeps crashing?
« on: 16 Nov 2011, 01:08 am »
A good 1/3 of my music was ripped and encoded in apple lossless, as I thought I'd continue using an ipod...   It'd be a major pita to go back and figure out what is what, and re-rip to flac, but FAAC.EXE just WILL NOT STOP CRASHING!

It drives me absolutely insane.  When an apple song comes up, it will play through the entire track then crash, squeeze server goes unresponsive and I have to get up, physically go to the other room with the server, click "ok" to the crashed notification and sit back down.

Incredibly obnoxious, at least analog is in the same room and gives me a half hour per side!

How do I make it stop?  I'm un-installed and re-installed multiple times, and I recently upgraded to Logitect Media Server...

The problems began when my buddy tried to set up MusicIP for me and ran into all sorts of problems.

Help!

Hey!

Just don't scratch them up!

Anyway, sorry can't help you with the crashing problem.

But you still have those CDs and CDP right?  :D

Take cars,

I own my CDs, yes.  But I don't have a player around.  I went the Bolder Cable Co route (modded SB Touch, PSU, EE DAC).

Faad.exe crashes for many reasons; poorly trained pilots, poorly trained drivers, poorly maintained vehicles, etc.

Better stick with UPS.   :icon_lol:

Fred, if the problems started at a specific date, perhaps the easiest way to fix the problem is to use system restore to a point before that date.

Wayne,

I would do that but I its not an option.  I don't do the restore point thing.  If it persists I'm wiping the hard drive, doing a fresh install of windows 7, spending 2 days letting musicIP scan my music collection and just nipping the thing in the bud.  Seems ridiculous to start again fresh over a codec crashing, but I'm pretty darn frustrated.

Some sites report problems with a particular version of that codec, have you dl'ed the most recent one?

Couldn't you just use a software program like dBpoweramp to transcode the ALAC's to FLAC?  Not painless, but not that bad either.  That is if you have gotten away from the iPod.

That codec link is dead.  That said, I've updated to Logitech Media Server Version: 7.7.0 attempting to resolve it and the problem still exists.

TJHUB,

I did think of that and tried it a couple times, but for some reason like 75% of my library (which is NOT corrupt) wouldn't batch convert no matter what I did... The other negative of that approach is I'll lose album art for everything.

Apologies for the dead link :duh:...
Could the codec itself be corrupt or out of date? This link with the latest versions works (I checked!): http://www.audiocoding.com/index.html

What's the status of MusicIP, in particular MusicIP integration with Squeezebox Server (now LMS)? Is it installed? Is it integrated with LMS? Have you tried getting rid of it?

Interestingly enough, I had this happen to me today as well and I've never had it happen before.  Tend to wonder if it's a bug in the latest release of the Squeezebox Server software.

My problems are still persistent which is driving me insane.  My SB transport is sounding sooo good with the Bolder mods and recently music rail'ed PSU that I don't want to give it up, but I'm damn near ready to kick it to the curb.  So fustrating to allow a song to play a second too long (last 3 to 5 seconds of any apple track) and have to get up and go to the other room, turn on my monitor and click OK to the faad.exe crash error to restore funcitonality until I screw up again.

My vinyl rig at least gives me half an album between me getting up and is in the same darn room!

Thanks for that link, I will try that faad.exe tonight.

I'm not sure of the MusicIP status, but whether MusicIP is open or not I have the instability problems.

This problem has followed me through three different squeeze server versions and occurred only after my buddy's tinkering.  I don't think it is a problem native to the software--I think something got screwed up.

I think tonight I may take some of the tracks that are problematic and throw them on a laptop with squeezeserver and see whether connecting to that server I have crashing problems.  If not I may wipe my desktop and start again or create a dual boot or something.
