Getting a little better every time I listen - got to get more hours on it. Also need to change my listening habits. I'm used to going to listen to a few cuts right before bed. Go upstairs, turn things on, sit and listen.
I really need to turn the MW on a good half hour before I start listening. I remember the old days when I had Dynaco Mk IV's on the top end of a bi-amped system. Used to fire them up for days at a time. Tubes need to warm up a bit IMHO.

It sounds like the preamp is almost cooked to perfection. There will always be that warm up time. You have to plan for it. My current amp likes to be warm for about 30 minutes before it gets cranked up.

Rocket,

I paid $1500 for the demo unit from the RMAF that was in the Gr Research room. The face plate was updated to Cocobolo. The battery, the charger and the preamp are all scheduled to arrive either today or tommorrow. I'll shoot some pics when they are all assembled.

I just hope that pesky turkey dinner thing doesn't get in the way of listening. It wll take wild horses to tear me away from the rig this weekend.

This just migh be a good match! I saw the sail boat in your avitar. We went to Americas Cup this last weekend in San Diego. If they have the races on line still from Sunday they might be of interest to you. The wind was blowing really hard.

I know that Cheez is getting antsy waiting for his Cocabola pre. Just to help pass the time, here is a pic of something similar that I'm working on. At this point it is in raw mesquite, waiting on a gloss finish. This came out of my stack of firewood.

The preamp is home!

In person this unit looks so much better than any picture could show to you. The down side is that the warehouse person that received the outboard battery for the preamp went home before I could get it from her. I have the C-Tek battery charger and the preamp but no battery. I was tempted to break into the warehouse last night.

I started to clean out the rack and get ready for the install. I did find a few CD's I thought were lost to the universe.

I took it to Gary. Perhaps a local trophy shop could have done something similar, but I happened to be in Dallas and ran it by his house.
