I will be sending my U70 to Frank Van Alstine for sale, so I will not be needing these tubes anymore.
The prices are $50 for the 1964ish Mullard, and $SOLD for the fat-base model. I can accept credit card payment and of course local sales with cash are also an option. Checks or money orders are also fine if you post here frequently. I do not like Paypal and do not wish to receive payment in that manner.
I sent these tubes to Dr. Cilantro for testing on his Amplitrex and the results were stellar. He was very well impressed by them. I will include the sticker with the test results that he sent me.
First up is a Mullard that I obtained in mid-2010 from a good fella at AA. It became the rectifier for my U70. Due to psychoacoustic limitations and the prolonged period required between proper a/b testing, I cannot say that it improved the sound over the stock--also excellent--Matsushita that will be going with the U70 but it certainly did not harm things! I estimate that I used this rectifier for about 500 hours.
Next up, about a year ago I obtained a beautiful rectifier from Bill Thomas. It is a fat-base Mullard GZ34, and the details are well documented by Bill at this thread,
http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=66469.0(mine is the "nice" one).
Paradoxically, the only "use" that this tube had was when it was tested by Dr. Cilantro. Since the other Mullard was working fine and I had the aforementioned lack of interest in the a/b testing, I left this Mullard as a backup or as a future experiment, and now it appears that neither use will be required.
To my significant surprise, I eventually found myself preferring the Van Alstine hybrid over the U70. Due to the complications associated with operating a tube amp I do not see myself making a gift to friend or relative anytime, so the time has come to move this fine gear.
