support for .ape/.Cue
« on: 9 Nov 2011, 01:37 pm »
Hi James, Chris,

would it be possible to implement .ape/.cue support for the BDP1?

A friend of mine came along with his Frank Sinatra collection in this format, and the BDP returns "K:\!! Extract !!\' . I tried to extract/convert the separate songs to flac with XLD which seemed to work at first, it wrote separate tracks with all the right titles in order, but all we heard when playing was a loud hissing....

Have to look into converting files, but nevertheless, if it might be possible, it would be nice.

Thanks,
Marius

Hi Marius,

I used a converter, worked out fine...
Can check what program I used if you want?

Marius,

Although it took 9 days 24x7, I just used Sound Converter (Mac) to convert a 100 GB ALAC library to FLAC and it worked great . Not sure if you are using a Mac but it appears to support almost all formats.

Hi all,

Yes on a Mac. Conversion to Flac went fine , but splitting into separate files did not go well. Used Xld, and other apps. Maybe the .ape/.cue combo is corrupt. Will check again going through the process in steps, in stead of all at once.

Did you first split and then convert, or did you first convert and then split?

The .ape/.cue file doesn't know what to do with flac files, so first convert .ape to .flac and then split will not work. Split up the files first, and then convert them to another format.

In xAct, I split the files and indicated they had to be output in flac format. Whichever the app does first is beyond my knowledge...

Since several audiophile (e.g. Decibel) audio players support .ape/.cue files I wondered whether BDP1 might be able to do so, and in future firmware release would be updated to do so.

splitting went wrong so in fact that's another thread...

thanks,
Marius

hey, I just found out the BDP1 does support .ape files!

no support yet for individual tracks within, but this is a great start.

Do note the timing. Total time as indicated is 09:23, but as you can see, I am at 52:38 already.
The tracks I made with XLD are shown too, to give you an idea what's on this .ape file.

Happy experimenting this side of the pond. (beautiful music btw, worth all the trouble :thumb:)
