Trying to help hook up a stereo and need advise. The pre-amp is a Chinese unit with a tube in the output stage? There are 2 pairs of outputs (L&R) and one says High and the other Low. Which should be used to a 100 w digital Rotel amp, and can the other 2 go to powered subwoofers. Any help is appreciated. ---THANKS

What brand and model of preamp is it?  My guess is that High and Low refer to high gain and low gain.  If that's the case, the low gain outputs are most often used to drive a solid state amplifier and the high gain outputs to drive a tube amplifier, as tube amplifiers usually have lower gain than solid state amplifiers.

So I would start out connecting the low gain outputs to the Rotel amp and the high gain outputs to the subwoofers.

I don't know if it's a Melody (depending on age it could be the SHW1688, P1688, or Pure Black 101) but I sell that brand and they do have high and low outputs on their preamp.  SRB is correct that the idea is that the low gain outputs are aimed at solid state amps in general since their input stages might be over-driven by the high gain outputs.
