I bought my first 4B SST2 (silver) in 2009, which I sold again just a few months later. This was to free up money for another 4B SST2, black this time, and with the latest upgrades (different caps and such). An awesome amp, I still am more than happy with it.
I also owned the BDA-1 for a while, but it did not improve the sound of my Marantz KI Pearl CD player. The differences in sound were at best nuances, which I did not feel to be worth the price of the BDA, so I sold it again.
I currently am thinking about the BDP-1, but at this time I am very not convinced this is the best Bryston can do. So I probably wait for a mark 2 version.

I went with a BDP-1/BDA-1 combo a week ago...very glad I did. The BDA-1 replaced my Mark Levinson 36S DAC and the BDP-1 plays alongside my Mark Levinson 37 CD Transport. The BDP-1/BDA-1 is an amazing combination. The best digital playback I have heard.

I'm relatively new to Bryston gear yet somehow I've accumulated two 2B's, two 2B-LP's, a 3B, and a 4Bpro all within the last year.

I stumbled across the above interview today and was about to post it until I found this old thread here. The interview talks a bit about how Bryston has straddled the fine line between professional and consumer. I'm curious if the ratio has changed much in the nearly 20 years since that interview?

Hi Armaegis

Yes one of the misunderstandings about Bryston is people think we got our start in the Pro market but that is incorrect.  Other than building a few Pro amplifiers for a Toronto studio way back in the mid 70's our real start came when John Dalquist used our first 4B at a show in Chicago and endorsed the amp as the best he had heard with his DQ-10 speakers. We went from a few amps a month to 300 a month in about 6 months.

The reason our Pro business grew was because the studios and touring music groups realized here was an amplifier the sounded great but also was very reliable.  So in the best years we would do maybe 40% of our business in Pro business and today I would say it is more like 15% Pro.  The reason for the drop in the Pro is most Pro amplifiers now are switching amplifiers because the touring bands want low weight high powered amplifiers.  The Bryston amps still rule when it comes to recording studio applications because they are stationary in the control room and sound excellent and transparent.

I've had my SP26 and 3B-ST for 18 years now. Bought them as a self-gift for my 50th birthday. Before that I had a Bryston 12B and a Luxman M4000 powering my mirrored DQ-10s. Prior to purchasing the 12B, I was using a Dayton-Wright preamp. Anyone remember Mike Wright and his electrostatic speakers?

Bought a BCD-1 in 2009 and then picked up the SP-1 and BDA-1 combo a couple of years later. Love them all!

I am now considering upgrading the 3B (to 3B or 4B cubed, perhaps) and possibly some Bryston speakers. If I did that, my only non-Bryston gear (other than headphones) would be my 35 year-old+  Yamaha T-1 tuner.

It's all about cranking kilowatt power through subs these days. I've done a few gigs with my 2B's running tops which sounded great, but my back was much happier with me when I swapped out the 4B for an 8-lb switching amp.

I had Pioneer electronics with a Garrard turntable in the 70's.

In March of 1984,  I heard my first CD player, a Yamaha CD-2 and was instantly hooked.

I bought that, a Yamaha 70 watt per channel Integrated amp, along with a Yamaha tuner, a direct drive turntable (Ortofon OM-10 cartridge), a 3 head cassette deck and a pair of NS-1000 speakers.  Big money for a 23 year old.

In 1995, the NS-1000s were given to a nephew and I bought a pair of KEF Q-70's.

In late 2000, my Yamaha amp starting failing and nuked my KEF tweeters (twice over the next year).

I started looking around for something else to replace the Yamaha.

I had a friend that loaned me his 4B-ST over the long 4th of July weekend of 2001.  I had also arranged for an ADCOM (the 555) amp,  a Parasound pre-amp and 2 Parasound power amps.

After putting the Parasound pre and each main amp in the system (the rest of the system remained unchanged) and listening for days,  the Bryston was the clear winner and it wasn't even close.

I used Alan Parsons Project I Robot,  PF Dark Side of the Moon and Cleveland's recording of Pictures at an Exhibition on Telarc along with Miles Davis Kind of Blue and Dave Brubeck Quartet's "The Great Concerts" and
Oscar Peterson's "Swingin' Brass with the Oscar Peterson trio" as the benchmark CDs.

That began my search to find a Bryston dealer that was relatively close by  (Birmingham, AL or Nashville, TN).  I really didn't want to drive to Atlanta (I still try to avoid Atlanta).

I eventually purchased my 4B-ST the third weekend of September, 2001 from Mr. Curry at Audio Video etc in Franklin, Tennessee.

The Bryston 4B-ST is paired with the Parasound PHP-850 pre-amp.

One of these days,  I'll get a Bryston pre-amp.  I just don't know when.

The Bryston 4B-ST is absolutely the best money ever spent on audio.  It's given me many hours of pure musical enjoyment over the years and still does whenever I power it up.

14B2 / BP26 since 2009, paired with pmc mb2i .

They're a match made in heaven ,perfectly neutral without being too clinical, the exact sound I'm looking for-- the confidence that I'm hearing exactly what the production team at the recording studio intended it to sound like. The system is like a highly experienced butler , no matter how high the expectation , he never fails to deliver. 'Your music, sir.'

It's been almost 7 years and I never looked further, until the stupid cat peed on my amp and it's now away for repairs.  Now there's a void on my gear rack, everything sounds different, and it's not in a good way. Heart breaking.

I hate to break it to you, but unless you actually live in the recording studio the music was recorded at, you will never hear the same thing.
