I know the VR-33 is rated at 90db and 8 ohms. Anyone have any experience with a 50 watt tube amp? I'm considering a 50 watt 300b tube amp. I'm a jazz listener and really don't drive the speakers hard and my room is pretty small/medium 19Lx12Wx9H.

Just trying to see if anyone has gone down this route?

I am surprised how easy the VR-35 seems to be to drive properly.I have tried with a 40w push-pull EL34 based integrated,great result!, some Consonance EL34 75W push-pull monoblocks ,great result! , some MingDa 805 based single ended,about 40w,good result! I mainly listen to rock,pop and like to play loud,and the 805 single ended was amazing at inner resolution and the ability to let me look into a 3-D landscape ,but could not play quite as loud as I want to.
Right now using a 200w Hypex based class D amp,great result!
This speaker is just a very good speaker,easy to get good result with,easy load for the amplifier.
But I tried a 8 watt 300B single ended on the top only,but that was clearly not enough power for me.

Is the 300B amp push pull or single ended ?
But I guess since you listen to that kind of music mainly and don't need to crank it too much,you will be very satisfied with how a 50w tube amp drives these musical entertaining speakers !

And the picture of the KR amp does not use 300B tubes.

My gut feeling is you will be fine with that amp, but I haven't tried it. It is a pretty easy load as speakers go...

 Nope not a 300B tube. It is a KR T1610 type tube. Still a stellar unit no matter.

Understood, but the OP asked about a 50-watt 300B amp. I do not believe I've ever seen nor heard of one.

The T 1610 is, in fact a paralel double 300 B (XLS) in one huge glass producing a 50 watt pure class A power.

Ceedee, I have a pair of Double Kronzillas using the KR-1610.  My understanding is that each 1610 tube envelope contains a pair of 805 tubes, hence 1610 = 805 x 2.  Whatever they've got, they're sounding awfully sweet driving my VR-5 Annis via Masterbuilt PC, IC, SC... piano music to die for.  Do you have experience with the rest of the KR tube amps?  How do they compare with the Kronzillas?

My goodness fellas - Those T 1610 tubes run @ $2,300 per tube. But it sounds like this is one of those "You get what you pay for" situations. They do look nice.

Canary Audio http://canaryaudio.com even makes a 80 Watt 300B amp but kids need to go to college

Nice to meet you here.
Yes, the T 1610 was designed originaly for Cary Audio years ago as a twin 805.
Later Riccardo Kron redesigned the circuit to run the T 1610 tube in his own amplifier wich was nicknamed Kronzilla back in 1999 while the film Godzilla was popular. The name Kronzilla was never changed. The T 1610 is modified several times as seen in detailed pictures. The now a days Kronzilla mk II even have upgraded boards inside designed by Dr. Bradley who is a brilliant designer. The Kronzilla SXI mk II was shining in the Purist/VSA room last RMAF. We use KR amplifiers for nearly 15 years now and we never met an amp matching better with Albert's speakers in between.
We also have the new released VA 900, already called the Baby Kronzilla running with a quad of KT 120.
Very powerfull (2x 80 watt) and also musical since it uses the same board as the Kronzilla. We will present the VA 900 at the next High End Show in Brussels as anounced on KR's website.
Also the VA 340 running on two 300 BXLS is a perfect match with the new VR 44 aktive. The booster is very valuable to support the low(er) power triode.

Hey guys..

Speaking of tube amps, I was extremely impressed with an amp they were using in the Totem room at RMAF.  It was a 100W integrated with extreme build quality and sounded amazing.  $6K isn't chump change but if I were starting over with my electronics, I'd have to give it serious consideration.
