My New Cherry Jr. Arrived today

I am still at work and my wife signed for the unit. I am so stoked right now.
I am expecting a shipment from Gary Dodd soon so I have the battery preamp to mate with the Cherry Jr.

Once these are up and running I'll let you know about how they sound together.

Wow this is a good lookin unit.
The packing material was very solid and it arrived in beautiful shape.
This was a 10 out of 10 on the Audiogon scale.

She is a beauty. She passed the no smoke test when I gave her some juice.

Gary has the wooden faceplate for my new Dodd Next Generation Battery Pre Amp at the engraver and it should be finished soon.
Can you say Cocobolo?

I was surprised how heavy the amp is. I was always under the impression that digital amps had little under the hood. Not true here.

I have some Morrow MA2 interconnects on the way.
In the package there is a set of RCA to Balanced adaptors.
There is a second set of ground lift adaptors.

What are the ground lift adaptors to be used for? I bought the Herbie Feet for that!

I'm running the same combo...Dodd Buffer > Cherry (red face plate)...My speakers are SP Tech Minis...I've just had the Cherry for about 10 days but its really beginning to sing now...Great combo...Lots of great mid-bass and oomph and super clean on the top end...

I looked into the Dodd Buffer but needed the gain. What can I say? I like to play it loud. This is the new Battery PreAmp from Gary. He showcased it at the RMAF just a few weeks ago in the GR Research Room. I'm running the power hungry but efficient GR Research Line Source 6's. They soak up power like a North Korean dictator.

The anticipation is killing me.

Gotcha...looks the same from the fornt but different innards! I may swap in one of my active pre-amps just to see how it sounds with more drive/gain...Although with 2 kids I rarely get to crank it these days

By the way, I checked with Gary Dodd recently and he will also make a balanced tube buffer as a special order. I haven't found out the price, though. My system is fully balanced so that is why I inquired.

I think you are most likely correct. Gary could explain the diiferences but I would get lost. When he said that his listening group felt it sounded better than the Original Dodd Battey Pre amp that is all I really needed to sign up for one. Along the way we'll learn more about this unit.

I'm sure that many have said it before. "I love my Cherry"

It muscles the lows with authority, keeps the sugar in the middle voices and extends the highs to the skys. I'm so happy with the Dodd/Cherry Combo. The holidays have kept me in suspense while the preamp was breaking in.

The handoff from a tubed preamp to the Cherry is effortless. The Cherry shows the music to all in a well balanced manner.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you Tommy. People are gathered together in the sound room at our house enjoying your handiwork. Many of those holiday smiles are a result of your Cherry Power. The holidays never sounded so good.

Hey Mr. Cheese,

I find that one of the most stunning properties of my Cherry Plus is the imaging/soundstaging - the effortless ability to make speakers disappear and sound to come from seemingly nowhere. (of course not to downplay all of the other attributes!)

Are you hearing this too, relative to past amps? Are you able to go balanced from pre to amp?

Tommy will get to hear my system after Christmas - It's been awhile and with the "pull the tube" mod on my EE DAC, new Audioquest Colorado XLRs 'tween pre and amp, and the full Soundcheck mods on the Touch he is gonna poop himself.
