Questions for 6EM7 Push Pull Tansformer
« on: 31 Oct 2011, 09:22 am »
Hi,

Would appreciate any information on the transformer needed for a push pull 6EM7 amplifier. I have a pair of 5k transformer which originally was taken out of a EL84 Single ended amp.

Would it be suitable for a push pull 6EM7. I have a friend who mentioned it would be better to get a 5k transformer which was design for push pull as the single ended 5k transformer would have  impedance issues?

If i do need to get a pair of push pull 5k transformer, where and what would be a good recommendation?

Thanks for any information or advise...cheers!

Hi
I have just dabbled a little with tubes, far from an expert.
But, all the output transformers I see are either push-pull or single ended, so I think your friend is right.  I would not use a transformer designed for SE in a PP application.

I'm not sure if it's impedance or power.  PP tranny's have to support more output power then SE.

Magnequest is supposed to make good iron

In the who makes the best iron posts, I normally see them get at least one mention

Depends on your budget, Magnequest is pricey, Hammond tx's are more affordable.  There are many others like Lundahl, James, Tamura.

Good luck with your project.
