  I just recently heard a demo of the Analysis Ribbon speakers using the Dueland resistor. The only difference in the two crossovers was the resistor.
  The result was staggering. Guys I know they are expensive about $65 each but man o man do they deliver. If you build speakers or want a simple mod you gotta try these. Not a dealer for Deuland.

They're all I use in the HF and MP of my speakers, I haven't come across anything better yet.

I only use Duelund resistors for crossovers (not the spelling!). Either the standard or CAST version. Have fun!

It depends. 

Generally, upgrading components in series with the tweeter and mid will usually net the biggest gains, but there are always exceptions.

Correct, however, in a mid or woofer network in particular, the components in the "T" leg (typically capacitors and resistors) will also be important, although less than the inductor(s) that are directly in series with the output. I've only found this to be true after playing with a lot of crossovers in the past. I have absolutely no data to prove my point though, only subjective impressions.

Any LCR networks, i.e. those that are there to minimize impedance bumps, I use only standard components.

I agree, the parallel cap in the LF circuit is important too, but will generally make less of a noticeable difference than the series components in the HF or MP.  As a minimum, I use Solen in the LF parallel position, Clarity ESA or MR if I'm going all out.
