Also very interested in the upgrade - primarily just interested in a crossover upgrade.

Should be fairly easy to accomplish on site if one is handy with a soldering iron.

Could we clarify what upgrades are being discussed? A previous post suggested that there was a $2500 upgrade to the 35 which I don't think is right -- but I don't know. Another post stated that one could add biwire capability to the 33's for $200.

I took it to mean for $2,500 more you can buy a VR-35.

35 Export Deluxe (if that is what is referred to) retail for $7995 according to the latest review in Enjoy The Music. That's more than a $2500 difference from the $3750 VR-33.

I was told by VSA that if you want to upgrade your existing VR-33 speakers to the VR-35 status it would cost you $2500.00 plus shipping. I think it is just the crossover parts and the tweeter/midrange drivers? Call Albert to clarifiy. It was a while back and my memory isn't like it use to be. I do remember after speaking with Albert, we agreed it wasn't worth the hassle(shipping and being without speakers for a while). And Albert suggested putting the $2500.00 towards better cables. And that's what I'm going to do. I hope this clears up the confusion I may have caused??

My listening taste are pretty eclectic but every once in a while I like to crank up the rawk...last night I put on one of my favorite rock tunes, Tom Sawyer by Rush and turned it way up. This is really the first time I have cranked the VR-33s and it was quite an experience. There is a spot in the bridge where Neil Peart first hits every tom in his kit in succession (from right to left on your stereo image), then creates something akin to thunder with his dual kick drums. Wow! This is the first speaker I have had where you feel the drums as much as hear them.

I was also impressed with my Bel Canto eVo2i, not a hint of strain, clipping, or distortion at that volume.

Just thought I'd share :D

Guys I will be getting next week a new pair of VR 35's..I know this the vr 33 board but my question to you is Im curious as to what speakers many of you had in place before your vr 33 purchase and are you happy with the swap. I am moving from a pretty good speaker the Dali helicon 800's into the VS VR-35 and am interersted in some thoughts on comparing your speakers..before and after.....as there are many more owners of the Vr 33 then the 35 ...so chime in tnanks

I have been looking for speakers to replace my Focal Chorus 816Vs for about 6 months. Have considered Maggie 3.7,Gallo 3.5,Dali, Harbeth, Salk and VanDersteens and acouple of others. I have heard the Maggies and the Harbeths and was disapointed with the Maggies at higher volume with rock music.  I heard the VR-33s a month ago, love them, talked with Albert a few times then pulled the trigger last week.  Using a VPI Classic with Benz-Micro Ebony and Parasound Halo amps. Hoping the VR33s will complement my system and blow me away with greater sound than the Focals. What do  you think?

Hey es, I listened to the Goldenears at a local shop. The setup was horrible
so I could not really get a good listen,as if they did not
want to sell them. Have you heard them?

I visited the store that carries them but they weren't set up for an audition.  They looked cool though  :duh:

If I had a penny for every good speaker that was set up poorly in a shop, I'd be rolling in pennies  :o
