Servo Sub hookup
« on: 5 Mar 2011, 07:41 pm »
(I posted this earlier on the OB Circle, and was advised that it might get a better response here)

Haaalllppp! I have put 2 SW-12-16FR Servo Subs into a single H-Frame cabinet on each side (for stereo) and I have made boxes for the two A370PEQ amps. The package came with a single wiring harness.

What it did NOT come with is a detailed diagram of how to hook up the speakers to the amps. I am also surprised that I have only one wiring harness. If that is for the stereo pair, seems to me I have to space the subs too close together.

Naturally, by the time I put everything together, it was Friday evening. Now there is noone around either Rythmik or GR Research to take my call.

A cry in the dark. Can anyone out there help meeeeeee??

Danny was very responsive (Thanks, Danny). The answer was that one of the wiring harnesses was missing, and will be sent to me shortly. Whew! I thought maybe I was missing a few brain cells.

I still do have a question, however. I would like to do the one-woofer forward/one-woofer backward configuration to reduce 2nd harmonic distortion, but I'm not sure how to hook up the servo wires to the backard-facing woofer. The tab sliders are color-coded and sized for the correct tabs assuming a forward-facing woofer. I know I need to reverse polarity for the other woofer, but I'm not POSITIVE about what to do with the other woofer's servo wires.

BTW, I just ran a short test on one of the sets of woofers (both facing forward) and (so far) I am pretty impressed. All I did was play the right woofer channel by itself using the Stereophile Test CD 2 with the woofer decade, 200-20, and I got very clean-sounding output down to 20. I still need to check how they blend with my Sound Lab ESL's, how well they play symphonic music and how they do with transients. Stay tuned.

If Danny sends you the wiring harness I'm thinking of it will have all 4 voice coil wires and all 4 servo coil wires.

Yes it will. The first one does.

If you face one woofer another direction then you also have to flip the polarity on the driver and servo coil connections on that woofer.

That's what I thought, but I wanted to make sure.
Thanks.
