- dBpoweramp

Primary (and likely only) use of the Media Player in my application will be for audio, therefore, audio integration is what is important (and not other media functionality).

The answer is it depends on the file format you are using.
MP3? All media players will do.
WAV? Tricky as there is no standard for tagging WAV: http://thewelltemperedcomputer.com/KB/WAV_KB.htm
FLAC? Any media player supporting FLAC

My personal preference: dbPoweramp + J River Media center
dbPoweramp: AccurateRip, fast, easy to configure, AMG for tagging
JRMC: support of many audio formats, versatile interface, multiple drivers, excellent sound quality: http://thewelltemperedcomputer.com/SW/Players/MC14/MC14_intro.htm

I am currently using EAC and J River 14

File formats I prefer are WAV and FLAC

May jump to dBPoweramp based on the positive feedback from multiple users on multiple forums. It appears to be the ripper of choice.

Asked the question to make sure I was using the optimal combination, for my needs.

Your only worry is WAV
There is a plug-in to make JRMC tag WAV but I don’t know if it is compatible with the tags written by dbPoweramp.

I've tagged via Freedb in EAC.

And I believe J River tagged automatically when I did not tag in EAC, but I wasn't 100% sure since the information was available on another file I had already created within J River.

In any case, need to test it out. Not a major hassle, but does add another step and it could, of course, be smoother.

And I'll look for the plug in wrt J. River and EAC, and definitely with dBpoweramp once I make the move.

I have trouble with understanding your question, David.

Both EAC and dBpoweramp convert one audio format into another: CD to digital files, for example.
I don't think that EAC enables you to edit tags after finishing the process, dBpoweramp does enable tag editing after the crime.

Would you like remote control and networking (internet radio) support on your media player? The features of your media player don't rely on the converter that you choose.

The answer may be: No, it doesn't make a difference, given my limited needs/requirements.

Figured I should ask in case fellow AC members had an opinion on the question.

I'm primarily concerned about the interface and audio file playback, so the networking and remote functions are not on list (at this point).

The only interfacing/interaction that comes to my mind is the tags.
Tagging helps you organize your music.
Both EAC and dBpoweramp create and store files. Your media player reads the stored files and converts that to sound.
Your media player doesn't require EAC or dBpoweramp to function, and both EAC and dBpoweramp don't care what mediaplayer you use.
You might play their produced files in you car stereo.
When converting audio source to audio files, you might be more interested in knowing how easy tagging information and album art are retrieved and how accurate that is.
