Thanksgiving Turkey
« on: 25 Nov 2010, 05:29 pm »
Happy Thanksgiving from snowy and cold Spokane. I got up early this morning to smoke a 16# turkey on my cast iron charcoal grill using the rotisserie. Using soaked hickory, pecan and sassafrass woods for smoke flavor. The turkey has been on for about an hour.

Thanks! I'm taking it to a friends house. There will be 6 of us chowing down on this bird so I'm not expecting any leftovers. I saw some pics of the west side--pretty nasty. We had a very mild winter last year so I fear we will make up for it this year.

Happy Thanksgiving to you!

Laura:
I'll be doing the same as you are later today.
Mine will take 5hrs to cook. 5lbs briquettes. AND!!! 5 Martinis.

My family calls it"The drunken bird"

Wonder why they call it that?

                                                 Cheers

I will offer Skaer Sauce on the side as an option. I do enjoy cooking a turkey this way. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. I wish I had one of your pies to enjoy

I made an apple/cranberry/walnut pie using apples from the back yard Laura. Vanilla ice cream is a mandatory accessory, Skaer sauce is not.

Save a piece of pie for me :eyebrows:

Root for Colorado to pull the big upset in Lincoln tomorrow and, of course, pull for the Tigers on Saturday :thumb:

No pics, but I brined a 20 lb bird overnight, roasted with stuffing.  Came out exceptionally juicy and delicious! :thumb:
