Double Die Outputs?
« on: 21 Nov 2010, 03:14 am »
I'm set on buying a power amp from Frank Van Alstine but have a question. He offers what's called a double die output upgrade. My currrent speakers are pretty efficient, but this may not always be the case. Is it advantageous to have such an upgrade?

Thank you.

Good choice on getting an amp from Van Alstine. I own two of his Ultra amps and really like them a lot. I'm planning to get the double die upgrade in the near future because I want to buy some Magnepans and they have a reputation of being power hungry. So, yes, I'd recommend the upgrade so you'll have plenty of power for what the future might bring.

That sounds like a wise ting to do then. Thank you. Do I need to upgrade all four of the outputs on the amp I'm getting, or are two (for speakers) enough?

The double die upgrade replaces all of the MOS-FET power output devices in the amplifier (4, 8 or 12 devices, depending on the model).
