Making moving the monsters easier?
« on: 3 Sep 2010, 10:37 pm »
Hi

Here is a question that I don't think has been asked before...

Finding out I have Parkinsons recently made me think......for the larger sized systems, vr-4's and up ( 150lbs + ).......any secrets as to the best way to move them from space to space in a room, especially with the spikes being used ?

Obviously there is the grunt and strain method but wasn't sure if anyone has methods out there that make things a tad easier!

Thanks

Mike

Sorry about your PD. These gizmos might help. Lots of versions out there...

Like AB, I have used these with success but if your speakers are spiked you will need to put a cup under them.  Otherwise the spike will poke through the gliders.

When I bought some slider things that you put under a refrigerator to move it, the kit had a lever arm to raise the object. Real heavy objects are sometimes rolled on a series of pipes. I think that they did this building the pyramids. So some plastic plumbing pipes (larger than your spikes) should work.

Thinking about it more:
The spikes may complicate things!

For a specific made-for-audio product, you might want to look into Gliders from Herbies Audio Labs. Herbie's has a Circle here and you can read more about this product here and look at the different product choices on their website here.   :thumb:

I second Robin's suggestion. I use Herbie's footer/gliders under my spikes as a permanent installation on my otherwise heavy VR5s.  I can retain spikes AND move the speakers easily on my wooden floors. They'll give you good advice if you contact them and their prices are sane.
Good luck Mike.
