the omegas look like they are good sound stagers from left to right and from front to back.however, how are they when it comes to sound staging height?this question applies to most models.

As I understand, theory says a point source is the ideal for imaging (in any direction).

But so much depends on how it's recorded.

I continue to be thrilled with a pair of the Super 8 Alnico XRS.  For my system and my ears, I find the sound stage width and depth to be excellent.  The height is not on a par with the width and depth, but it is very, very good.  I believe it is important to keep in mind that the listening room is always a huge factor, and upstream components, particularly the preamplifier, will have an effect on the soundstage width and depth and to a lesser extent the height.

I listen nearfield to Super 6 Monitors. On some recordings a vocal can rise very high, higher than reality. I chalk it up to the engineering of the original recording. Omega in a well set up room are tough to beat for imaging.

Out of curiosity, how much tow in are you using for the near field listening?

Thanks,
Charles

And to add to the question which Charles has posed, how far apart are your speakers (center to center) and how far away is your listening position?  I have been curious about near-field listening with my Super-8's but was too lazy to experiment.  This information will allow me to begin with a successful approach.  Many thanks in advance!

Ok, guys, here it comes...

This is a blog I did when the room was set up. It's over two years old. But contains photos and some of the trial and error I went through.   http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=57818.

Details for current set up:

System:
Omega Super 6 monitor on sand filled Skyland stands
Omega Deep Hemp
Macbook via USB, to Isabellina HPA LFP-V Edition and Sig 30. 2 LFP-V Edition
4 GIK Tricorners, stacked in front corners
1 GIK Monster traps (if I remember the name correctly, on front wall, under Plasma TV
TV covered with double layer blanket for critical listening
3 GIK Monster traps behind listening area
GIK 242s at first point of reflection on side walls
1 GIK on side wall in back walk in closet. I listen with the closet door open
Red Wine Audio gear on heavy maple bases. Deep hemp on medium weight maple base. All bases spiked.

Speakers to chair:
6 feet center to center (speaker cones)
Approximately 3’ 9” to listening position
Speakers are toed in, but I still clearly see the entire sides – Estimate the speakers would intersect maybe 15 feet behind listening position

Hope that helps. Kent

Kent,

Thanks so much for the detailed specifics of your near-field setup!  Can't wait to try experimenting with your approach.

Happy Listening!

All The Best,

Steven

Thanks for the details on your setup and the link to the pictures.  When I had the Omega Sticks, in the main listening room, near field was definitely the way to go with my Wright 2A3 amps.  The Sticks are now in my office system after finding an Audiogon 'too hard to pass up' deal for Super 8 Alnicos with a Deep Hemp Cube.  Needless to say, the new setup does not lend itself to near field listening.  In fact, I am still tweaking the placement of the speakers.
