NOS GZ32 for the clarinet
« on: 11 May 2010, 09:22 pm »
Hi,

I have 2 Gz32 doing nothing in their boxes. One Brimar and one Ultron.

I just noticed that The Sovtek 5Y3GT in my Clarinet started to be noisy. When I gently shake it, I hear "Clink"  "Clink" inside... Not Good...

So, I'm wondering if I could put one of these GZ32 to good use in the clarinet.

I checked the spec and they look similar enough to the 5Y3GT but I tought to ask just to make sure.

Thank in advance for any advices or warning.

Yves

I think you can use the GZ32 insead of 5Y3GT. The only "question" - the rated anode voltage, but it is greater than in the Clarinet, so - no problem.

Thanks Poty,

Also, I've notice that these 2 tubes has the "coke Bottle" shape, so it bring the tube glass closer to the transfo, heating it up, will have to keep an eye on that...

Again, thanks

Just a little update on the GZ32,

After a few days of using the clarinet, This coke bottle doesn't seem to heat up the transfo that much cause it's barely warm just as before.

I dont use the system for more than 1 hour to 2 at the time, but no sweat (no pun intended, or maybe a little)

And I didn't notice any change soundwise,

So all is well
