I consider Radiohead to be one of the most progressive bands in the business today. Experimental, not afraid to try something new, talented instrumentalists, with much in common with the best of the classic prog rock bands of the day.

No, it is definitely not dead. There are some terrific Prog Bands releasing fantastic albums. Sure prog moved from the centre--okay, just a bit right of centre--after the 70s, but there is a tremendous creative output in this style. The best of the best in recent years (my opinion) are Porcupine Tree, The Psychedelic Ensemble, and Riverside. The most original and best album I heard this year came from The Psychedelic Ensemble---The Art of Madness. Right up there with the albums of old---Yes, King Crimson, ELP, and the others from that generation. Ozric Tentacles  has a new release too that is absolutely wow----Yum Yum Tree. Riverside is a close second to The Psych Ens. I find new stuff on Prog Rock Radio and Prog Archives.

Happy listening!

Some recent prog finds of mine - downloads from e-music.com

Timothy Pure - Island of the Misfit Toys
Timothy Pure - Blood of the Berry
It Bites - The Tall Ships
Parzivals Eye - Fragments

good stuff, all.

Another new CD I just purchased is Haken - Aquarius.

This is GREAT debut by an English band that is equal parts traditional prog and prog-metal.

Great melodies, a high level of complexity, an exceptional vocalist and some major chops.

I'd throw Magnitude 9 in there, two.  If you like harder edged stuff many would consider Coheed & Cambria prog.

As stated before, I am going to see Rush this summer (playing "Moving Pictures" in it's entirety)!

Now I hear, later this year, Roger Waters will be performing "The Wall". I will be there, too!

Prog rock is still kicking.

Prog rock is still kicking.

While I really appreciate the old guys still out there doing it. The most exciting thing about progressive music, is the new stuff!

There's just way too many new artists taking it in new directions.
