Yet Another Question for James
« on: 25 Feb 2010, 01:22 pm »
About one year ago I ordered a new 2B SST/2 with a 17" silver faceplate. This year, I ordered another so that I could take advantage of a mono balanced configuration per channel. And, by the way, it is a tremendous improvement, not that there was anything wrong with single ended drive!

The new one looks different as it has a bevelled or chamfered edge all round the faceplate.  :( So, now they look kind of weird when stacked together. Is it safe to assume the electronics inside are the same, or has there been some sort of changes under the hood?

Hello Mr.Tanner,
Taking this opportunity I would like to ask about the B100 and B3SST2 PRO:
1 - The current B100 integrated amp have a ''Active'' preamp or a ''Passive''(only a potentiometer and selector knob) one?

2 - The 3BSST2 PRO have a ''Adjustable Gain Control'', this is a potentiometer knob on the face plate?
Thanks for your support, Gustavo

Thanks for your fast reply.
Iam in doubt IF the 3B PRO Gain Control is a knob on the face plate or is a dip switch on  back plate/inside etc??
Because in the Bryston site the Image showed is a 3Bsst without knob on the faceplate.
Please clear,  Gustavo

The gain controls (one for each channel) are flush screwdriver actuated potentiometers on the rear panel.

Other than the faceplate they are identical.

Thankyou boys, for your help.
Excuse my silly questions:
This gain control may be used as a Volume control with a no preamp setup, just a 3B and a Sony SCD-1??
Wonder IF there is any impedance prob??

NO = the gain control only has adjustments from 29dB down to 13dB

Yeah, maybe...anyway, no problem. Thanks James, for the info. I will likely order another to match cosmetically -  I can probably use the older unit for another application.

For those interested, the 2B SST/2 in a balanced config is worth trying out (350 W/8Ohms, although I only need 50). I am using it in high pass duty (>290 Hz, 8 Ohms nominal) in a triamp set up and I am extremely impressed.

James,

I have one more question for potential upgrades to 9B-SST amplifiers.  I know you have said in the past that it is not economical to upgrade, but 9B-SST is modular in design and could be dismantled easily?  Also, Bryston provides upgrades from 9B-ST to 9B-SST, so SST to SST^2 would just continue this tradition...

As you can tell, I am trying to stay current with Bryston product lines...

Ciao,
Luigi

Hi,

By the time you replace 5 complete channels in the old 9B you would have more invested than selling the older 9B and using that money to purchase a new 9B.
