Danny, Question about your Kits..
« on: 8 Feb 2010, 07:08 pm »
So I am talking with a friend, and we wanna build something that will be something of a giant killer.
now, i know you have helped make or do make many giant killer kits.

OB7 plus, Super V, LS6 is what specifically is on my radar.

now what should i try to build, and what are the differences between the 3 speakers in terms of sound? are there any negatives that i should be aware of that one of the other speakers might not have? also, do you still offer a ls6 kit with cabinet plans? it was, but is no longer listed on your page.

Thanks for the info Danny!

Tell us more about your woodworking skills and tools.  For example, the SuperV is a fairly simple build, the LS6 a fairly complex one.

I've build sheds, bars, av3's and lots of other things. I'd say my skills are enough for the challenge.

If you have built a pair of AV-3's you are ready for anything!  Go for the LS6's.  What a lush sound field and dynamics to kill for.

Tell us about your room.  That is likely to have the biggest impact on which kit you would have the best luck with.

2 different rooms.

1 is 15 ft wide by 20 ft long. 8 ft ceilings.

the other room is about 12 ft long and 20 ft wide.

i already know how the ls6 can interact in the rooms provided and i have heard them in a variety of rooms.

what i need to know, is if the ob7 plus is better, since Danny does make mention on his page of it being one of his favorite speakers, and if so, where does the super v fall into the mix, which by the way cost over 1000 more for the kits than the ob7 plus and i believe also the ls6

This might help a little: http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=34105.0

Super-V's have been on a completely differ level of fun for me. They do everything really well and can do so in any room size and in rooms with limited treatment. Like any OB speaker though, it does need to be at least 3 feet or more out into the room. I'd have to say that it is a new favorite.

The Super Vs. have OB servo subs which add a lot to the cost.  They'll be the most dynamic of the bunch.
