I need more storage for my desktop looking at an external hard drive 1tb or bigger anybody have any recommendations.

I've got two Lacie quadra (http://www.lacie.com/us/products/product.htm?pid=11156) 1TB ea.
one is about a year and a half old the other (back-up) is about 6 months.  The newer version looks exactly the same but runs even more quite.  They both work fine.  I don't use the big blue button, so I have no idea how well this functionality works.  I just liked the way they looked.

I also have another 1TB drive that I built using an (SATA)enclosure ($25) and an internal HD that I already had.  You can put the two pieces together very easily, and it would most likely cost a bit less than buying a pre-assembled external.

I have had good luck with Seagate external HD's (I have about a dozen of them ranging in size from 200GB to 1.5TB).

They have been very dependable and issue free.

I tend to buy them when they go on sale from Fry's or Newegg.  Both are significantly cheaper than Best Buy, Staples, etc...

I've just upgraded from a 500GB Western Digital Elements series to the same drive in 1.5TB size. ($119 at New Egg) and couldn't be happier.

I've been lucky(knock on wood) with Maxtor One Touch externals. Two 1.5TB, one 1TB, & acouple smaller ones.

I've had 6 Seagate HD's, 40G to 1.5T and haven't had a failure yet. (yet being the key word here  ) I'm presently using 5 Seagate's in my system and I just upgraded my interior secondary HD to a Seagate 1.5T.
 
TigerDirect had the best price available and I had no issues with them.

Great!! the rebate is solid too. I still have the $20 check that I need to drop off at the bank.
Once you send in for the rebate, you'll get the check in 4 to 6 weeks.

Well it looks like the sale lasted a day or so. The price is back to normal now..no rebate offered.
