Thank you all for the information and responses. 

I did try out REW and learned my current SW response is pretty bad, there's a post on Home Theater Shack (http://www.hometheatershack.com/forums/rew-forum/20907-rew-novice-graph.html).  Also in my room, bringing the speakers more forward from the front wall can help.

I do want to upgrade the sub.

  Bummer man, that's tough.  If you had an EQ you could at least kick some notches in those peaks, but I think going with a new subwoofer will gain you so much more, and then some.  If you corner load a sealed sunbwoofer like a Rythmik you should be flat to 15Hz.
