Jason

I just read the following caution on your website:

Caution: High efficiency speakers with sensitivity > 92db are not recommended for use with Icon as noise could be heard at 2 to 3 feet away from the speaker's tweeter.

Was that warning always there? The reason I ask is that I am building a pair of fullrange speakers (SPL ~95dB) and I had hoped to try them out with the Icon.
(and yes I already own S1's and they are very nice with the Icon).

Further question - what is the fault in the Icon that causes this 'noise'?

We have a solution and I haven't get around to update the Icon product page.
Icon being a $249 product, doesn't get all the high-end treatment so it has higher switching noise and can be detected by high efficiency speakers. But we designed a filter (that cut off > 40KHz noise so it won't affect the sound quality) as an add-on to the RJ45CX box. This new product will be called RJ45CX-F and list for $149.

Therefore you real cost will be $249 + $149 if you're using high efficiency speaker.

$400 is sounding like a lot of money for a rube-goldberg 'you need two boxes to hook up real speaker wire' setup.

For that kind of cash couldn't you do a single-box solution, maybe twice the size of the current Icon that has real speaker connectors and can run high-efficiency speakers?   A 12 watt amp with a design flaw that doesn't allow it to be used with it's intended speakers (high efficiency) doesn't sound so good.

I'm glad I don't have any problems with my 89db speakers.   Otherwise this might be a problem I'd be tempted to solve with a hammer.

EDIT:  Ten minutes after posting this I started getting some high-frequency noise coming out of my system.  I turned off the Icon and it went away.   System had been playing about 30 minutes.   Who's got a hammer?     :icon_surprised:

Is the RJ45CX-F (filter)  included in the RJ45CX box? Does it cancel the background noise, improving the signal/noise percentage? only if there is no signal (silence) or always with a very little signal?

The RJ45CX-F filter thing doesn't work so it was no longer available. This thread hasn't been updated for a long time and someone just bump it back up. Sorry.
