Nuforce CES 2009
« on: 15 Oct 2008, 11:29 pm »
The hell with the recession, we are going to show even more products this year at CES 2009.  Is anyone coming
We will have 2 sections:

Consumer Audio:
Desktop Audio (Icon, S-1, S-0), Mobile Audio (Icon Mobile, earphones) and Icon Network DAC
 What is this thing? Will tell you in a few weeks.  No, it is not Squeeze Box clone, more interesting (if it works as expected)

High-end Audio:
We will show the "mini SE" Stereo 8.5V2 and P-8S, and the usual Ref 9SEV2 and P-9, may be G-9 (phono preamp)
There might be a few other things, we'll see.

S-0 is a life style speaker with aluminum cabinet, about the size of a wine bottle.  Some people feel that S-1 is too big.
Don't expect S-0's sound to be as good as S-1, it will be a "normal, good sounding" desktop speaker.  We hope to release it before end of the year.

Sounds good...I have no problem with the size of my S-1's...I wouldn't even mind if they were a little bigger! But they sound bigger than they look so that is what matters most I think.

Love the attitude!

I have the Icon and the S1's. The network DAC sound very interesting as do the S0's.

When should I expect to see these new items in Australia?
(If you come to Melbourne it's my shout!)

I saw the demo and it works so we hope to be in production by CES 2009.
It is best to use a few examples to describe what this Icon Network DAC does:

You have your PC and Icon as desktop audio in your study room.  Connect Icon Network DAC (IND for now)  in another room either on wired or wireless network (IND is not wireless so you need to connect it a wireless Access Point or those wireless adapter, for less than $50). You can either connect active speaker to IND or another Icon to it.  Now you can play your iTune directly to IND in another room. IND will appear just like another local USB Audio device, completely plug and play.
Cool, but what if you are in the other room without the PC.  With Squeezebox, at least you can stream the music with the Squeezebox client control. Well, we can do better. You can connect a 4-port USB hub to IND and connect a display, keyboard and mouse (or just connect a touchscreen display). And now it becomes a remote display for your PC/Mac. Not only can you control the PC to play music, you can use it just like a network terminal.
Wait, there's more.  What if you have another PC in the house (very likely, your spouse will have his/her own preference of music) ? This PC can also see IND as a local USB Audio device and play music to it.

Wait, there's more. You can connect any standard USB webcam to IND and turn it into a remote wired or wireless webcam.

Ok, you can think of other unintended usages for this thing, but foremost, it is a very very good DAC.  That's how it got started, we feel that some people might want a dedicated DAC within the Icon family to drive active speaker or connect via S/PDIF out put to your AVP (yes, IND has S/PDIF out too).

With Icon, Icon Mobile, Icon Network DAC, now you can really have lots of fun and convenient.  I hope every household by a few of these

What do you think?

Thanks. Wow! My head is spinning trying to work out all the options.

1. If I have an IND in a room without a computer, can I connect a wireless adapter directly to the IND (along with speakers) and access the music my PC?

2. Does the IND have a headphone jack?

3. Is the S/PDIF coaxial, optical or both?

Thanks

m!

Exactly, that's what it is for. You can play iTune (or any audio/video programs on the PC to it just like it is local).  As I mentioned, you can also attached a touchscreen to it and it becomes a remote PC.

I believe so.

Optical.

I'm subscribed. I use itunes for a  lot of playback and have been frustrated for years by the fact that I can only use the express for wireless playback (on protected files).

Please keep us posted on costs and availability.

We are still tweaking the DAC, this is going to be a top of the line (at least for the Icon series) USB DAC and headphone amp. List price estimated to be $399.

Thanks to our very hardworking and charming staff at CES, our showroom was quite busy
Some of you have contacted them either by phone or email.  Anna (on the right) is a 20 year old college student but work nearly full time at Nuforce. Mei is our new hire for international sales.

Welcome!! But Maria ?
A question..the music server is, actually, only on software ? A Demo downloadable release can be a great idea... :thumb:

The wireless USB capability is brilliant but I don't this this will be competitive in the marketplace.  I am not interested in something that requires a half a dozen boxes to make it useful to me.

If you took the Icon and added this wireless USB capability with a built in wireless receiver you'd have my interest. Heck even a built in wireless receiver on the IND would be a big improvement.

But I am not your typical consumer.

My concern is that the networking capability added to the DAC will confuse the customer so we are going to downplay that feature.
The Icon DAC is developed primarily for people who want the best USB DAC and headphone amp we can deliver. You would use it with your high-end headphones or high performance active speakers.

The photo shown by giannettino was not the music server, it was the Icon + S-1 + W-1 setup.
