Mobile Fidelity Carbon 3.5 cartridge review
« on: 23 Sep 2008, 02:12 pm »
Jeff;

I think that you are the only magazine (or private party) that has publicly commented or reviewed the Mofi 3.5 Carbon cartridge. You sure gave it a rave review.

Although it has been a while, I am interested in learning more on that cartridge. Primarily, have you heard a Miyabi Standard or 47? Being made by Miyabi, I assume the 3.5 has a similar "house sound". If you are familiar with the others, how does the Mofi compare to the Standard/47 with regards to sound, build, etc.

Thanks for any input.

Yes, I would say it is very similar to the 47.  That was why I was so excited about it
in the first place.  From what I understand, they were just in somewhat short supply
at the beginning of the production run.

Great cartridge though!  Good detail and very neutral.  Definitely one of
my favorites....

thanks for the quick reply. I also like the Miyabi sound, really liked the 47 sound, but was turned off by the plastic non-threaded body.

Hopefully MusicDirect will have one at the RMAF and I will have a chance to hear it (finally!).

Thanks again.

Or if you want to buy one from SoundstageDirect, they will offer the
10% TONEAudio discount...

Just type in "TONE16" at checkout.  That's 350 off, good for at least
a few albums!
