Would speakers like these consider open baffle with the back open. They are only 6 1/2 deep. Dimension is 41" high, 21" wide and 6 3/8 deep.

In my opinion yes they would. You would need to factor in the depth during the design process but they would still behave as OB speakers.

Do you use these speakers close to the rear wall and if so how do you like them. I have always heard OB don't do very well unless out in the room at least 5 feet.

They are Boston Acoustics A200 - sealed cabinets design.  They sound so good so I am thinking making some cabinets just like them with the back can be removed so I can try them "open baffle";  also plan to use the Alpha 15 instead of the 10" that they are designed with.
