Oppo 980 mod
« on: 3 Jul 2008, 11:41 am »
I grabbed some caps and sorbothane for doing a mod on an Oppo 980 DVD player (which is an excellent HD CD player), and wanted to know if anyone knows how to make it output a progressive component video signal from PAL/region 2
discs. I'm having a technician do the work, as I lack soldering skills.  Also, I'm planning on adhering a metal base to it (I thought 3/16" steel cut by a local welder would work); can anyone suggest the best way of gluing it to the plastic base of the Oppo unit? The 980 has a very shallow feet; would anybody recommend just carving them off, or cutting the sheet of metal so that it doesn't interfere with the small feet it was built with?

Did  you ry the region 2 / PAL discs?

It has been a while since I checked the specs but I have bought one because I understood it to be 'truly universal'. That is it palys all regions and all video standards. I hope that is so because I am a UK resident and have the player in US at the moment.
