xlr cables in y-configuration??
« on: 13 Mar 2008, 08:17 am »
james,

there was a discussion a while ago about xlr cables to be used as y- cables.
let's say the balanced outs of bp 26 and sp2 are connected with this kind of cable to fit any sst amp's xlr ins.
i've never seen it before anywhere.

- is this possible at all?
- if yes, is it safe??

alex.

Hi James;

   Thanks for forwarding this.  I'm not sure what the customer is asking.  Does he want to Y the connections from a preamp and suround processor? Or does he want to drive two amps with one output?  Thanks.

Certainly not.

What you propose is shorting the outputs of two line drivers together. Not allowed.

You may only Y-split (a single low impedance) output to multiple (high impedance) inputs.. :)
